The Arrau River turtle, or South American river turtle, is the largest of the side-neck turtles. These turtles are found in the Amazon Basin.

Blonde turtle shells are produced by removing the shell material or “Skutes” and then polishing the carapace below for many hours until a high sheen is acquired. They were often brought back by sailors and are a highly prized for their natural beauty.

Condition:

A beautifully polished turtle shell in very good antique condition.

Laws:

South American River Turtles are protected under CITES Appendix II
This piece is a “worked” item, produced before 1947 and therefore does not require a license to be sold within the UK.
